Is it possible that there is any truth to the claims that billionaire investor George Soros is paying protesters, stashing bricks and financing Antifa?
Such claims have surged amid the nation-wide unrest following the death of George Floyd.
The theories argue that Soros hires protesters, rents buses to transport them and has people stash piles of bricks to be hurled into glass storefronts or at police.
This is not the first-time conspiracy theories have been hurled at the left-wing billionaire.
However, these more recent accusations are so credible that, several conservative groups are calling on authorities to “investigate George Soros for funding domestic terrorism and his decades-long corruption.”
While any such allegations have never been proven, what we do know is that Soros, 89, has donated billions of dollars of his personal wealth to liberal and anti-authoritarian causes around the world, making it not out of the realm of possibilities that he would support the actions of groups like Antifa and BLM.
When asked if he believed if it was possible that Soros himself created and is backing Antifa, President Trump responded, “I wouldn’t be surprised. A lot of people say yes…”
For now, most of the evidence suggests the protests are what they seem -- gatherings of thousands of Americans upset about police brutality and racial injustice. Still, the accusations flooding the internet leveled against Soros range from him simply funding the protests, to him being involved in faking the death of George Floyd and financing the creation of the coronavirus.
While such claims range from the credible to the outrageous, this reporter has often found that when it comes to “conspiracy theories,” the truth lies somewhere in between.
